Right around the time that old guy was 16 and was recruited to the Galicia Waffen SS her grandfather was running NAZI newspapers promoting fighting for Germany as a patriotic duty.

"In 1943 and 1944, both Lvivski Visti and Krakivski Visti hailed the German-approved formation of the 14th Waffen SS Division Halychyna, composed of Ukrainian volunteers,” the museum pointed out."

They were both from the Galicia region and both came to Canada about the same time under the same conditions as former NAZI collaborators.

At 16 Hunka was just a pawn in what was going on at that time but Chomiak was an influencer working directly with the NAZI party.
His newspapers were NAZI propaganda that encouraged and glorified enlistment in the 14th Waffen SS.

At that point in the war the Red Army drafted everyone that looked to be near fighting age when they over ran new territory.
