All these clueless economic illiterates who like to point at the US debt and compare anyone else to that, haven't got a clue how the world works.
The US, as the issuer of the world's reserve currency, is destined to run trade deficits ad infinitum, the budgetary deficits are simply a result of that. It is a feature not a bug. It doesn't work any other way.
Canada does not have that luxury / boat anchor, and as such our debt does matter is avoidable and has to be repaid somehow sometime.
