Untapped resources to help on farms

We have found out that there are many retired farmers or people who grew up on farms that are looking to help out once in a while.

So we started a company out west that helps put the need with the people who want to work.

It is a free service and now we are going to trade shows in Alberta to let people know about the service and later this year we will be launching into Saskatchewan and in 2009 the rest of Canada.
It is a data base of people willing to help people.

    Check it out at www.agriconnect.com

You can also look up Agriconnect on Facebook and view some recent news interviews and news articles about this service.

    We would welcome your feedback.

Sounds really dumb! Most old/retired farmers are just that and don't want to be bothered, just left alone, watching the modern generation struggle as they did in the bad ole days!

In our area a couple of retired farmers help out on some of the larger farms during silaging, haying etc.
They both have moved into town, but miss the farm enough to still keep their hand in once in awhile.
Another neighbour has a small reclamation and lease maintenance business, has a couple of retired farmers running equipment which has turn into a win/win for everyone concerned.
The retired farmers are reliable, know how to run and care for equipment and aren't afraid to start their workday early in the morning.

Yes there are a number of farmers who want to be left alone, but there are a large number of them wanting to get out of the condo and get outside and do something they feel comfortable with and still enjoy (just not full time).

For those that want to be left alone, so be it, don't sign up to be a farmsitter.

selling the farm and moving into an adult condo is a cultural shock for many farmers.
Several of my neighbours have gone that route, and the ladies seem to take to urban living like ducks to water, while the men, if they are still healthy are finding time is very idle on their hands.
