Canola? Rain makes MUD and Observations from the Road!

Crops this time of year can take a pile of rain, except for lentils. As long as it doesn't go down and stay down a little bit of flooding isn't the end of the world. I've always had to combine around potholes to harvest my best crops. If the pictures on Facebook are even close to representative every crop out there is already 6feet tall. If that's the case it needs 4" per week to support that jungle. Hopefully the hail stays away.

Kindersley /Rosetown are under water this afternoon. Lentils fields water everywhere. Wash outs, runs are full. They got 5" a while ago. Very sad... Pouring so hard wipers needed a third gear.

What happened the last few days is what we have lived with for 15 years. You seed with hope only to have mother nature deal you a shitty hand some time in the growing season. There was no boom years only survival as mother nature takes and doesn't care. So far we missed the shit show by a bit. Yes we received rain but just the right amount. Our crop was taken for the most part after the May long weekend with two pea size hail storms that flooded newly seeded fields. No coming back from that shit show.
Rain in excess destroys fields.
Proper drainage projects would be a great start but try to get three farmers to agree on something. Sask could have a extra two million acres with proper planning and projects. But hey why look to the future.

Do not think manitoba would go for more sask drainage.maybe you should try to work with mother nature instead of trying to beat her.yes she seems to give extremes but 15 years is a new normal not an extreme.

New guy it's about looking at the big picture! In Europe or USA you don't see sloughs like canada and South America and Australia either! Why because people gov etc understand land is not being made any more and why work around water! A proper drainage system in canada would work just need all to realize that! Keep the excess rain coming maybe some of you will realize this shit is a problem!
We need to think out of the box that would be a start but hey it's canada where not on my back yard attitude runs deep till it happens to you!
