Last meaningful rain here was July 10 th
The further you go south the longer the duration and hotter daytime temperatures were

We got a pile of wind and just over 2/10 yesterday. On radar it looked like you did better Furrow, did you get the needed rain?

2/10 around most of farm , more NW of here
it phased out fairly quickly unfortunately
was looking very promising around 10 pm

There is a pocket west of here that has caught some decent showers lately
My guess some big yield potential there in general
Here it depends on soil type , hail and timing of seeding . Will be lots of variability in my immediate area. Had huge potential but could still be decent overall if we can make it through August

The odd pea crop looks very good , most got diseased out in early July
Lentils for the most part will be poor for sure
Cereal crops and canola by far the best at this point and the moderate heat has pushed maturity on the later / hailed crops . Very little crop burning here
South of River is a different story . They had a huge crop last year but are definitely struggling for moisture now and got very little last night
Lighter land South of River has been burnt up for a week already

The big uncertainty is , was crop maturity pushed enough in wet areas and most crops north of Hwy 16 to make the August full moon time frame
1/2 our crop will be ok by then , the other half that was hailed on will be close as it was definitely pushed this past week. Will have much lower yield potential but may still be ok if it makes it before first frost

I see it was close to freezing in far north Alberta this morning behind this massive cool front

My guess is at least half the canola acres in western Canada will be that way

Not gonna speculate on that , a lot of lessons were learned .
The grain companies are mercifulness and I think most are a lot more farmers are cautious now. A few here lost their farms after 2021
Given the world situation, crop conditions sliding a lot in July , a very poor winter wheat crop in the U.S. , other than a handful of good crop pockets , I see very few willing to be overly anxious and these crop prices being offered today .

east central sk. 1/3 canola coming out of bloom, 1/3 full bloom, 1/3 just started blooming...highs all next week of 23C. and rain forecast. the Industry better hope for a long warm fall. My canola is in the middle and will need many many weeks yet. Prepare for the worst hope for the best and probably end up somewhere in the middle. bruised but not dead.
