Anyone else growing Roundup ready next to Liberty link under the excess water conditions this year?
Most of my Roundup ready is DeKalb 902. I've been so impressed with it on a small scale the past 2 years (very dry years) that I finally broke the promise I made to never ever grow Dekalb again after enough disasters.
Aside from the Green seed issues, it never seemed to handle stress nearly as well as any of the Liberty link varieties would. Earlier this season I thought the tables had been reversed. After the extreme dry followed by the extreme wet, huge areas of the Liberty turned purple and stunted, some look to virtually dead, prematurely flowering, while the dekalb stayed green and healthy throughout.
Almost a month since it finally quit raining and conditions have improved. Even the ugliest of the Liberty link now is coming into full flower green and thick, branching and healthy. The DeKalb on comparable wet soil is already coming out of flower weeks too early. thin and short and pitiful. Not going to amount to anything. Yet still healthy and green.
On drier ground both look good.
Is anyone else seeing similar outcomes?

801 LL on the right. I have one bag in the middle of L333 and it started flowering a week earlier. And earlier than 902 seeded days later.
Looks impressive so far.
Where are you located that you need to grow such short season varieties?

902 rr is on the right and looks much better than the 801 LL. I play with pgr's and they always add a week to maturity so hence the 902 ultra early turning into a just a early/midOriginally posted by AlbertaFarmer5 View Post801 LL on the right. I was close... Only wrong on both counts.
801 is by far the earliest Liberty I've ever tried. Even the earliest liberties over the years have been longer than the longest season RR's we've ever tried. It's already slowing down on flowering.
Can you explain the theory behind using pgr's on canola? I wasn't aware of that. Is it to prolong the flowering period?
We did manipulator on about half the wheat acres this year. It's now so tall I was convinced it hadn't done any good. Until I checked my test strips and there's six or eight inches of difference. Thinking I should have done the split application. Is anyone else doing two applications?
Used Modus on some Esma barley this year. First time I've tried modus. So far I'm not seeing any difference from a distance. With all of the rain in june, I was a couple of days past the ideal timing, but well within the label window.

And the rains just keep following that same track over and over again.Originally posted by SASKFARMER View PostWhere it's really wet in Alberta it's really wet and raining again tonight
We could probably use a rain again now. Some of our farthest South land hasn't had any rain since june. But every rain that comes through lately seems to have hail so we are probably better off without.
I recently checked out the damage from the big tornado just north of here last weekend. Not too many permanent buildings damaged, but trees down everywhere
