Agree. But don't blame the landowners for supply demand.

History repeats. This has happened before . Monette will be treated like a great businessman when this all fades from the conversation.

      It never made sense.

Sadly the write downs will come and the price will be what would have been affordable for a young guy to enter or an existing farm to do a small expansion. Opportunity has probably passed now.

Tighter lending because the guys on the other side of the desk didn't know shit about agriculture or how to identify a shyster.

Why was he allowed to put a crop in , in 2025? He was having problems in 2024.

And now the retard lenders are going to let him do it again in 2026 because he said the land shouldn't sit idle .

This guy should be living under a bridge when this is over. But he won't be.

Sell the cows, sell what land he might own and let the chips fall.

      Phuck him.

I have seen the outcome of shit like this over the years and it hurts local communities.

In reality he has no more than when he started this Ponzi scheme. The Bernie Madoff of agriculture.

None of this would be possible without reckless government money printing and canuckistanian banks being full of fentanyl money for money laundering purposes. Banks are under pressure to lend this loot somewhere. I see nutrien is on the list, maybe they can donate some more fertilizer this year and raise the price of urea to those who pay some more this year. In addition, a potential solution is to disband central banking and allow interest rates to trade in the open market. That way asset bubbles that were being counted on will disappear.

          Unpopular question:

By what amount did Monette raise the price of Saskatchewan farmland and thus landowner equity?

          5%, 10%, >10%?

I don't know the answer, but my intuition tells me he had a positive impact.

Positive impact depends on your point of view.

If I understand this correctly, it will be mostly Scotia Bank that will end up owning land. If I remember correctly from the 80's banks that got into this position wanted to move the land as quickly as possible. Those that are in a position to take advantage of this will get a good deal.

And your point of view depends on which end of your farming career you are closer to.

Other than a landlord, ( who charged full retail) I never saw a break because some bigger fish backed off.
Young guy starting out is an old wives tail.
