I would rather see a CRA auditor diving into my yard than a blue CFIA truck.

At least you wouldn't have to hear the story about being there to help you.

All the information requirements so far have only added cost to the primary producer. The benefit to it is realized up the chain. They sold us on fear. If they want more information, then they should have to pay for that. It took way too many years for the VBP+ money to start rolling out. $20.00 per head only for the animals that stayed in the program through the whole chain. During BSE we got involved with a value chain under the "natural" banner, and they basically paid us for the information they wanted. 20 years ago that program payed ~$50.00 per head.

Yet that system is failing we rarely see a payout from it. End users aren't willing to pay even a 20 dollar per head payment for our time and effort into that on a 4000 dollar calf.
So now the CFIA wants to move us down the path of the eu passport system.
Was at local cattle board meeting few days ago and VBP+ was discussed. Word from Ontario board is the program is either going to get major overhaul or scrapped altogether. Ontario board is subsizing the audit costs and said that will come to an end. Only 70 producers in entire province take part in it and majority are seeing no benefit.
