I keep reading hoping I’ll see the great Saskatchewan cattle market on Saturday? Finally I can pay my bills without worrying…

Not much to report , losing bushels daily , no rain , heat finishing off any positive yields now
repeat of last year near zero rain in July during peak growing season is never good

          Question about bushels being lost.

Does anyone actually believe that a billion dollar investment in irrigation for 90000 acres will make up what is being lost on dryland ?

And will it boost the economy significantly?

Could that billion dollars be better spent on all farmers as opposed to a select few that refuse to get out their chequebooks?

And if you go back a few years , there was a study done on the effects of dry hot weather on irrigated crops - they lose yield as well.

Chances are there will be bigger SCIC claims on irrigated land this year than some of the worst areas in the province.

No we didn't do green lightning this year as farm increased by 10 quarters. Plus a few other things keeping us busy. Lots of results will be out this fall from guys who bought machines.

The irrigation project is not worth it. Propped drainage projects make way more sence. Then irrigate out of holding ponds

I have no problems with the irrigation project. But if the cost is only, 1 billion and it covers 9000 acres, that works out to $111,111. 00 per acre. If its truly worth it, those that want the irrigation should be able to get a loan and pay for it. If the government truly wants it to go forward, perhaps they could give the land owners a loan to pay for it themselves.

I have a sneaky suspicion though that there are some in government who will be getting a high paid board position with Monettes and other who stand to gain substantially by this.

Canola here shut down bloom quickly last few days like it doesn’t believe the rain forecast either. Last flowers in all level and hilltop areas have mostly turned orange and wilted away. Yellow flowers remain around sloughs an in low spots. Interesting but gives the notion that the crop has used up all available moisture. It was only about a 20 day bloom.
