We needed a drink, and Monday morning early, we got one. There was 1/2 an inch in the yard and 3/4 of an inch over the rest of the farm. Yesterday, there was still water on the back roads.
The total rain for the Crops since May has been 3.07 to 3.89. For us, this is a lower rain year.
Our soils were full last fall fromrains and winter snow.
Our biggest rain event up to Monday was 1/2 in rest were all 1/10 up to 1/4.
It was needed as light spots had a different colour from last Thursday's blast furnace. Yesterday was cooler till 2 then the heat turned up.
Crop report.
Hating is in full swing, yields are down from last year but still very good. Old grass fields are not as good. Pastures needed the rain but need more.
Gophers are a problem
Crops have all hit the heavy water use stage and We need another drink to keep this one going good.
Guys were sitting on the fence for fungicides up until Monday, all ours were going back this week if no rain happened.
So far peas, barley early wheat and a section of early Canola is sprayed. All early looks good. Sand ridge is hanging on.
So peas and lentils are full flower and making seeds. Both look good but deep roots this year no shallow like last year.
Early barley is very nice with almost full heading and healthy. Late without rain would of struggled but not now.
Canary is very nice not heading yet.
Flax had a good catch and is early flower.
Oats is starting to flag on most fields but the thickest oats I have seen in years is at Carrot River. Your phone could rest on the crop.
Hrs and Durum are almost full head even later seeded. 15 spikelets average. Thinner leafmass but should gain some height. Potential is ok but wont hepit my goal yield. Lots spraying disease ths week now.
Canola is still all over the map one awesome fieldby two not that great and one WTF happened. Major water use stage so more rain is needed every week for peak yield. Spraying is on going as fields come into 30 to 50% bloom. Late are bolting.
So to sum up our area its no 2022 but looking not bad.
We are full drop Sid and applying fungicides and foliar and soil. You actually see something with roots after 4 years.
Tell whats going on in your area. Sask will produce a average crop this year if conditions continue. Don't let your grain company con you into believing its a massive crop. There job is to get your grain for pennies on the dollar.
Ag in motion next week are you going?
