Will be near zero canola forward contracted here , would be financially suicidal at this time

The reality of “well you had a chance to lock some in earlier” or you shoulda contracted less”
most comments like that come directly from those who have never farmed in real life situations or at all .
sometimes doing nothing is the best risk play until it’s in the bin

Do you hear any farm groups mention what is going on with the crop condition? This crop is stagnating and the few that are not need a rain to continue development.

Cow guys are going to have a tough time if they don't have a stack from last year.

Cow guys can now outbid exporters for feed. One of the few times in history when that is possible. Maybe the unionized longshoreman could reduce their price this fall. Local feedlot in edmonton area posted $6 for barley right now. Highest bid for barley I've seen this season so far. At $8 they can buy HRS off combine this fall.

I usually bale up 2800 ton of alfalfa (dry round bales), this year I am expecting 800 ton for production.

Canola crop at best could be average if it rains tomorrow, too many blank spots due to flea beetles, frost or dry, no germination. I’m pretty sure we will be in crop insurance territory given the latest forecasts. No amount of rain can fix some of these problems. The next question is should I sell my canola under the July contract or flip it to November? I really think we’re already sub 20 million tonnes as of today and dropping fast.

If the Canola starts bolting from a scrawny little dried up plant with few leaves .....

Canola is the wild card. Cereal top yields are baked in and going down every day. In Northeast Sask, we could still grow a canola crop, (average) but we need to tame the beetles and get some rain. The Crop is just sitting, seeded a week earlier than usual and we are a week behind now.

Spraying is more stressful than ever, low weed pressure, don't want a mess in the fields, don't want to spend any more than have too on a declining crop.

Would usually have 15 bus canola priced by now with the seasonal highs, but only at 5 (before seeing). This might turn out like 21, but we had a much better crop til the end of June in 21.
