he was one of my favorite profs at U of S. Down to earth and could talk farmer. Read his handbook on soils every winter...never gets old. I'm going to miss his columns.

0mm Apr and 1mm May. It’s hot and dry, there were some good rains around but I missed them all.

Rain gauges around here had up to 3 inches in them (last two rain events) no equipment has moved in Gumbo Flats sine the 18 th. Not complaining but some around here are hoping they can get back in the field today or Monday.

We are at around an inch total since April 1. Crops are sprouting but slow growth. Good for a couple weeks but past that will definitely need moisture. Long term doesn’t look great but almanac says above average moisture for June.

Fields have 2 inches of dust on top. Pretty discouraging.

I got barley seeded 1 1/2 deep sitting in 2 1/2 inches of dust.

By the time the dust settled,it was 4.6 inches. That has got to be an oxymoron statement. It came slow enough that few lows had much water in them.

Hay crop is made, as it stayed above freezing thru out the event. Soy just going in, now.
