In my question, should be grade spreads. Is the contract for No. 1 long seed only? Do you know the spread if you get No.2/No.3/Extra 3, etc.? Is it established at the time of delivery?

I would have to do some digging to answer your question. I have not forward contracted lentils in the past. I have a friend that has done quite a bit but without a whole lot of success (I will ask him the details and get back to you).

Seems like the forward contract offers at the Crop Production Show seem to come in lower than the next few months prices.

Just got back from pulse days I missed a few sessions but a Canadian lentil board was not broght up on the 8th or morning of 9th
The thoght of a clearinghouse like barley is looking at will that help? Many I talked to felt that price discovery through a futures board might be worth looking into.
Tom that study you referenced on green lentils was presented "Market risk, Management tools for green lentils" Marlene Boersch should be on Sask pulses website.

I got back from Crop Production Show last nite after going thru the worst storm Ive ever seen. Marlene Boersch had good presentation and the hint of a marketing group or board did come up.
We have 70- 85% of green lentil market share and yet we are price takers. She said there were lentils sold as high as U.S $500 /tonne from other countries and we were leaving over $200
              on the table !!
It sounded like our multiple desk sellers were bidding each other lower and lower so in the end we as producers end up with 8 or 9 cent lentils ! The exporters are happy , they got their margin ,and the farmers have taken all the risk. Something has to change in the pulse industry.

Then grow wheat, mustardman, and like you claim, you will snatch that cash on the table, so your momma can dress like a queen.

                  Mustardman

Single desk or voluntary? Approach to dealing with processors/others up the supply chain - regulatory (my way or the highway) or supply chain (value chain approach where customers needs are met, costs in the system are kept down and everyone gets their cut of profit).

                      Mustardman,

How exactly would the CWB handle Lentils... like durum?

Do you really think if they did... that the lowest prices on the planet on durum,... should make us be confident they would do any better on Lentils?

Ever heard of the law of supply and demand....?

Pehaps if $.16/lb isn't good enough to contract... because you can't develop a relationship of trust... there is a problem somewhere?
