Looking at your pictures your land looks relatively flat. I pre-harvested my first field of barley yesterday. Has some smaller hills. 70% was dead ripe, 25% was close and 5% in little draws still had some green with some regrowth where it had lodged. By the time the low areas were close to ready the 70% that is dead ripe could be dropping heads. Could I swath it? Certainly but historically swathing ends up with sprouted swaths.

Crops extremely variable in most areas this year .
Add rain lately and second growth of crop and weeds not fun to deal with

Some of our hilly, variable stuff is getting preharvest herbi as well. When the crop is clean, relatively uniform, ripening nicely I don't. To err on the side of spraying is the safe and easier play.

A guy nearby ran his ground rig through a 1000 acres or more of what looked to be very even canola. Trample by sprayer tires is at least 3% stand looked like at least 40bpa. So costing about 1.2 or $20an acre in trample. Why not just call the plane for $12?

I've also seen following the drill tracks trample far less than full tire width. Header gets all that are just pushed over.
