Good you clarified things. You outlined the what has been the norm with liberal pm’s and the nfu for years. The nfu is a dangerous entity such as Chuck is in that they’re capable enough to get the sympathetic ear of media and left of centre governments to convey their positions which do not align with the greater majority of farmers, and which are detrimental to most farmers ability to farm. I’ve thought it would be worthwhile for real farmers to join the the loons and push the loons out but it’s be like a Jew joining the nazi party to change things.

The sad thing is that most of the NFU org's in other countries maintained a pro modern farming stance and still enjoy much wider rural support. The NFU in Canada , especially in post CWB days is a fraction of what it was back in the day. The fact that they are against modern GMO Canola, Corn, and soybean growing is one of the causes that will keep them from broad support. Wait another few years and the last of the old pro single desk supporters will be gone and their membership numbers will be even worse from the prairies. It is apparent that the NFU will be run and controlled by the organic market gardeners from the East that are pretty far removed from the rural prairie issues.Originally posted by tweety View PostYes they do. And that is the only part of this that is idiotic. Your naivety. The PM is your PM and makes decisions that affect you. Drop the "Mr Trump is my President not Joe Biden" mentality.
They have the ear of any leader who shops at Whole Foods. Ag Policy direction comes from leaders, not farmers on Agriville.

My view of the NFU today is a membership that is mostly on first name basis.
A friend of mine used to be a director.
I haven't seen any indication he has any involvement for years.
Used to be an small active enclave west of me but basicly literally died off.

I try to never speak in definite terms unless I know the concrete numbers but in my opinion yes their support on the prairies is probably closer to zero than 20% and I am being generous. If it wasn’t for they’re in with the media and the Feds they’d be a memory of their best days like the SoCreds. Think Ontario farmers have to be members of the nfu as Bob Rae in the day mandated such. I don’t know anything how they are funded but maybe this is how they get the bulk of their funding. Certainly it doesn’t originate from prairie memberships.Originally posted by caseih View PostGreater majority?
