Was a crazy busy “day off” but so worth it

Sunflowers 🌻 were very interesting to to silage today…..




Ave 14 tn / ac , 62 moisture and 9.5 pro

Corn varieties were close , but high heat units to finish year …


Was 12 to 18 tn / ac depending on maturity
Great for this area , this year
15’s for the early varieties
17’s for the later ones
18.5 the highest but a typically late variety that would never make it here 9 out of 10 years
Not great but very good for my area this year when only 15 miles away crops were drought Ed right out

Corn silage crew coming to do plots today
14 varieties, will be interesting to see tonnage results from those

That variety was 5 bus less on average of the others . Did surprisingly well considering how it looked . In other trials in area with not the seed issues it was top 2-3 in every trial
Good seed matters .

It’s in a plot with 8 varieties, all RR . All seeded the same time, same fertility, same everything
The variety on the left had a ton of cracks in it , seed treatment was dusty and seed size was variable. The one on the right was nice even big seed . In dry cold conditions, seed quality is huge
This was seeded around the 20th so not “early” but we had cold dry frosts from May 31 to June 3
This stuff was just up and seemed not affected.
The balance of the field looks good . Just this one variety that had very questionable looking seed when we opened the bag .

NDVI on August 27 yield model for NB RM was 45.13 bpa

This RM will probably come on 3- 5 bus short of that on crop insurance. Way too many lower yields on east end of RM
Time will tell
This area a good 5 bus under expectations In general

3 bus down for sure due to canola at 3.5 to 5% moisture alone .

And these RM’s just SE of here will be 20 bpa max
That area been drought stricken 3 years straight

Makes sense we tailed off fairly quickly
