Its hard to wrap my head around how some areas are that wet especially when our area is bone dry.

The latest forecast here is the final nail. You can tell the mood has changed in alot of farmers. Most have come to the realization that this year will be over in 3 weeks. When my lawn and my crested wheat field turn brown, everything else will be on fumes shortly. But thats farming. We’ve been here before, we will do what it takes to get by, and do it all again next year. Its all we know, and quite frankly and more importantly its all we want to know. Best of luck out east.

So true Freight. We can’t miss many rains and u guys can’t buy one. Hard on the nerves when everything is so much money and out of our control. Hard to turn your back on doing a good job because it’s your profession but sometimes best to cut and run on costs when conditions don’t warrant it. Not in many of our natures but a necessity for survival in these times. Best of luck to all and hope for better conditions

Today was snotty all day, misting off and on all day after rain overnight and plus 12. Guys are gunna go tomorrow and to heck with the consequences. I don’t blame them. Mess or not, slime or not, stuck or not, it has to happen. Area probably 15% done max. This week looks nicer in terms of dryer, but cool still. Need some heat and dry to get things going.

I can’t imagine watering grass in May. We’ve never watered our lawn in history. Watered the garden once last summer for the first time as the corn was wilting one day. That’s my one hope. A good hay crop and grazing season is in the works.

A lot of land work happened last fall in these parts. If you spend hundreds of thousands on machinery and fuel, draining 40 acre lakes, pushing sloughy bushes down, and trying to make more land, but end up not making more land, where does that leave you? Do you recognize why the land had never been broken up to now, or do you try harder next year? Will be interesting to see.

Grain farming is not fo the faint of heart. I respect you all, not just everyone has the fortitude to do it. My hats off to y’all.

It’s a vast area that much drier than us here
I will go out on a limb and say 1/2 of Sask and Alberta right now . Like 50-60% of all crop land in western Canada is very dry. 30% May be too wet
10-20 % May be ok for now , but without significant rain in 14 days will add to the too dry area

Doing the quick math tonight, and I need peas to do 1.5bu/ac to get enough combined with carryover for seed next year.

Durum will need about a bushel, and mustard hopefully I can scratch up at least 50-60 bushels.

Latest precip forecasts look dismal through the first half of June. That's going to be a recipe for crop failure here. I'd feel awful stupid selling my remaining stores bushels and then have to buy those bushels back for seed!

I find your second to last sentence more depressing than too much rain, or not enough.

Are you sure I couldn't convince you to take up fishing?

What’s going on in Manitoba? Is today going to be the end of the rain?
