On the plus side I was done bidding yesterday by the time I finished breakfast ( ran out of money ) so I didn't have to waste the rest of the day for the live part of the sale. I don't think it will ever go back to the old ways. Standing in snow with a north wind wouldn't have been much fun anyways.

This is true we miss the nostalgic beautiful day sale by a friendly good neighbour farmer heading into happy retirement. Most sales are not that. I remember one sale my Dad went to in Medicine Hat in the 90’s. Worst weather day ever, he thought the sale might even be cancelled. Bought a bunch of stuff super cheap. But think of the poor farmer, you work your whole life and then you miss out with no guarantee sale and a freak horrible storm. Money you are counting on for your retirement. The purpose of a sale is not to provide us with good deals at the expense of a retiring farmer but rather a means for a business to get rid of all their equipment at a fair price where fair is determined by an auction’s price discovery. You can hate on Ritchie and I don’t like their sales but they have improved the sale experience for the owner 10 fold, by bringing in online bidding and removing weather concerns, and adding a guarantee.Originally posted by Old Cowzilla View PostOn the plus side I was done bidding yesterday by the time I finished breakfast ( ran out of money ) so I didn't have to waste the rest of the day for the live part of the sale. Watched a bit of the Schapansky sale in Tisdale today and thought most items sold for a decent price. Nothing crazy high and a few good deals and best part No buyers fee!
The exception a John Deere 4255 with 6000h for 93,000 but that's a sweet tractor.Last edited by seldomseen; Apr 20, 2022, 18:35.

Shapansky Tisdale has one yesterday and todayOriginally posted by wmoebis View PostDidn't read the whole thread here and maybe has been asked but why doesn't anybody start a new auction service that does on farm live auctions anymore? Seems a lot don't like on line or Richie style so reinvent the wheel!
Must be a reason.

CaseIH 7240 with 3400 hrs sold in a Premier auction near Camrose last week for $140000. Would still been a better deal than the 5488 but not the same money. There still are some smaller auction companies in AB including Doug Johnson, Premier, Prodaniuk, and Dunkle Auctions.Originally posted by Old Cowzilla View PostYou could buy a magnum for that kind of money and have twice the tractor.
