Whenever crop insurance shows up to knock on my bins there’s more empty than full ones here. Nothing has been sold yet and there’s carryover barley from last year since we didn’t grow enough this year to keep the MooMoos happy this winter.

On a positive note………. The trucking bill will be pretty minuscule this year…………🍀

I'd be more inclined to use that expression on previous years of carry over than 2021 crop.

We have always sold incrementally through the year and continue to do so this year. I follow a lot of different market outfits, one high priced and quite a few low cost. So many a year a go were recommending big sales a year and really no one could see the big run up. Now fast forward we have great prices historically and same guys are all mostly sold old crop. Does say wheat and Canola have more legs for another jump? Who the hell knows. IMO yes things could go up. If we step back and weigh the bullish news against the bearish I feel there is more bullish than bearish things but who the hell knows. At the end of the day though one in the hand is better than two in the bush they say. I guess I have to admit that I am trying to offset high fert cost with todays grain prices and not risk that prices drop and have to pay for expensive fert with cheap grain. Things have been pretty flat in the markets for the past month in wheat and canola and that wont stay that way forever.

Sold my first yesterday and today...oats 4CW at $9.25 and $9.50 respectively, Jan March delivery both on targets. I just can't keep up with these price increases, but I figure that is damn good money for 4CW.
Should I have waited, probably, but who knows? This is the first time I have sold this early, last year it was July but I had beautiful 57 lb. oats, they would sell anytime. This year nice 40.5 lb. oats, but they are light so I decided to take the money and run. Haven't sold all but don't want to miss out if they do drop and next year, the same oats may be $3.00.
The wheat and canola are another story both up today so I think I will hold that for now. If I see $24 canola and $14.00 wheat I may pull the plug on those as well.
I thought I might sell when I had secured a fertilizer price but I think I will wait to purchase in the spring and see what the moisture is like and then buy a minimal amount and top dress later if we get moisture, or like someone suggested purchase now with the agreement that if it decreases in price I can get the lower price. This is just my guess as no one really knows what the answer is.

Ya that seems like a great idea. All the dealers around here are offering the same deal, if price goes down we pay the lower price in april

I don't even understand how this would be possible. The product must not be booked? And in that case, I would question the ability to even get delivery in spring, regardless of price.
I'd like to see the fine print.
