Based on your experience, and real world data on battery life, would you sign up for Chuck's program of using your Tesla battery for grid storage, and if so, what compensation would you need to cover the extra cycles on your batteries which have a finite number of cycles to begin with?

I honestly would be very interested in the F150 electric truck . The others on the market are just too out there for me .

At the end of the day though can the grid as it stands now handle all electric vehicles by 2030 ? I just can’t see it , so there needs to be a massive upgrade in the entire system in a very short period of time and that’s not happening at all .
Home charge systems are far too expensive for 75% of the population and the grid would collapse in mid Sumer heat and month long cold spells as it sits right now .

Nice car AF4 👍 , I have seen a few around . But I need something far more useful like a truck . Even an all wheel drive EV El Camino would be better for most of us .

Ideally I would like to have a solar set up with charging station at farm backed up by a small bio diesel gen set . But unfortunately after the past few years of hail / snow / drought , there is no extra cash for such thing , so it’s a pipe dream for a lot of us .
Still have to raise a family , get kids through years of university first . That and the insane input costs of farming going forward, I can’t see how any EV or charging system will be within reach for years

How many km on one charge?

There is a lot of variables with speed,summer/winter tires, temperature, wind, terrain, road surface, rain/snow, etc. In the summer at 20degrees is probably your max highway range. California range at 100% is 499km (2018 model 3 long range dual motor 75kWh battery) but at 3 years old I have lost about 5% due to battery degradation. It's very realistic to say you'll get 350km or more of highway range in the summer. In -38 and wind you'd be pretty lucky to get 240km. If you're cruising around town you'd probably get 650km on a single charge. Autopilot is the best part of highway driving. It's as important as GPS steering is on all your farm equipment.

Tell me about the fuel and maintenance costs for running an ICE vehicle over 5 years @ 30,000km/year.

For reliable vehicles it is SFA
For some it’s maybe $2000 over 5 years
A few lemons out there no different than farm machinery
We have a 1993 Case 9270 tractor that has cost us near zero , most Toyota’s out there coast near zero over 5 years
Some cost a fortune, the same will be with EV’s .... so what’s your point ??
I guarantee there are many with Deere tractors , the odd Chev or Ford truck with the same near zero cost and some with endless costs .

Electrical output has never been free , and absolutely will never be again . Some will have a few cost offloads but as this ramps up the costs will resemble Denmark quickly

No doubt fuel is a big cost and getting higher but as will electricity, the free ride will be short lived
