The answer to that may help determine where this is going.

The fallout is going to be cataclysmic.

How ironic - the wealthiest countries will suffer the most and the poorer countries, the least impacted.

When the Great Plague was on in London there were restrictions on ships entering the harbour. So nothing new.

    Bring out your dead.

Rate on containers from Asia to USA pacific ports went from $3500 to $20000 pulling ships and cans from all other routes. Big importers like Costco and Walmart chartering thier own fleets.
Most going through 2 ports. LA mostly.
Gridlock with even the smallest problems.
Local truckers who get paid by the trip sitting in line for hours.
Quit and go drive for Amazon.

You can see the gridlock near the end of this vidio.

Build Back Better Biden wants to put vaxpass for all interstate travel. That ought to bring things to a halt pretty fast.

Passenger trains sit on siding till container train goes past. Wally's World and C-TIRE got more pull. Old pool elevator with no rail loads bulk into container with long conveyor than ships to Winnipeg to rail service to go to eastern Canada. That's 30 tonne at a time compared to 90 tonne in regular car with a lot more handling. Doesn't seem all that efficient to me but what do I know.

True I see that as well...They container train from Vancouver to the GTH near Regina , put the stuff on a truck and drive it back to Calgary. There is part of the problem.

When the product is being shipped in from the coasts to the least populated area of the country after it has passed through the populated cities , it makes no sense.

In the states they can have hubs and then load it to trucks destined to higher populated mid western cities. In canada that isn't the case. So the GTH will be a white elephant forever. Unless they force the use and creating shortages of drivers by inefficiencies. Oh and of course the 4 billion dollar irrigation project will make the GTH a success. A politician told me that a few years back.
