The mood in this part of rural Ontario is pretty subdued since Monday night. People are not surprised that the mental midget Sock Puppet is back in. Just sad and disillusioned.

The breakdowns in society are so numerous, and the consequences of civil, moral and ethical failure so ugly and shocking that it's mind-numbing. People are quite numb to the ugly realities we see.

But when the question is asked: "What will it take to turn it around?" - the conversation stops.

The political assemblage is meaningless. The legal system is practically defunct, a sham. Rule of Law - what's that, but an inconvenience for asinine dictators??

For a very long time it's been my view that the only thing that can bring the minds of the masses back to rationality is a good dose of hard times.

But what civilized man, woman or child wants to be in the middle of that mess? How sick is it when the destruction of a malignant and metastasizing culture is less harmful than its continued existence?

Our woodpile has been built quite large, thank you.
