I have noticed on radar too how the rain seems to follow the water channels. Glad some one else noticed that too. The area around Weyburn and south used to be so dry back when. Hence, ranching was the only option south and west to the border for years. Then Grant Devine’s Rafferty-Alameda went in and we thought, “Good Grief, that thing is going to sit empty.” Not so and the rains seem to get drawn up to the dam from US. Now all those hills south of us are seeded to cereals and even lentils. So, it begs the question, does water draw water?

No question to me that big enough bodies of water, and even slight topographical changes affect weather. My wife and I always talk about what we call “the valley phenomenon”. More times than not when we head to Regina, there is a distinct cloud line at ft Quappelle.

The quill lakes affect us. Our slightly higher (100 feet) topography here than the country to the south and west seems to cause more rain on us. It’s interesting that an overall flat place, can have such diverse weather and such obvious weather causing physical features, no matter how small they may be.

I said the crop was cosmetic in early June. Growth is there, Moisture is there, just couldn’t recover from early frosts or the heat wave.

The vast amount of canola that looks ok and not completely dried up already looks exactly like that Herc.
I still don’t think the trade understands how much damage is out there .
Everything I seen that looks ok has 40-70 % blanks and aborted pods .

Using SF3's estimator I come up with 6-8bu/ac for durum, and personally I think that's generous.

Short tour this am.
Amazing to see after a week of smoke and 2 days of mist with little measurable moisture.
Later canola full bright yellow, earlier canola re yellowing. Even thin areas yellowing up. Even saw a later pea crop flowering.
We will see how many bushels it can pull from the B horizon. Amazing to watch. Believe it or not some getting late LoL.
