How can cattle be any worse than buffalo, are they not ruminants as well, I could be wrong on that.

I just googled it. Turns out there were 50-60 million buffalo in 1800
Canadian cattle # around 7 million.

Current North American cattle population seems to be steadily around 110 million.

Not comparable at all, either numerically or impact wise.
