I was reading an article in the (left leaning) economist today where they say that EV conversion is the hardest part of lowering carbon output. This is because the grid just isn't capable of meeting the required electrical demand if our fleet of vehicles switches to total electric. A total upgrade will be required at the cost of billions.
The whole centre of the US is freezing cold tonight... many in the dark.

Texas is especially bad tonight... Wind is down... solar is down... and it is below -20C.

We need 10 years at least to develop the infrastructure to deal with extended cold winter weather.

Yet we blindly wander... drunk on the new green deal... into danger never before seen.

Texas should look at getting into the fossil fuel industry. Unreliable (aka renewable) energy doesn't seem to work.

So solar cells don't work at sunset? Odd.

How are they measuring total solar output?

California is now on time of day billing.
5pm to 9pm x2 rate as solar is petering out and aircon gets turned on when people arrive home to make supper.

You might check out The Duck Curve .
They don't need any more solar as they can't use what they have.

600 sq mi new installations approved with no demand at that time of day.

“In order to prevent damage to the motor, the turbines are heated to keep the components and their fluids from freezing. During the 2019 polar vortex, that safeguard drew 2 megawatts from the power grid.”

Americans waste so much energy today, especially in the south. Usually, the leading causes for all this wasted energy are old and inefficient equipment, inefficient lightning practices, running electronics in empty offices, not having an energy management system, and, the worst one, HVAC mishaps. Space cooling and heating are responsible for about 40% of a house's or office's energy cost.
