Harvest 2020 over for me, burnt 60 gallons of fuel and stuffed it in five single axles that went straight to town, never got rich but my sanity is the best in five years.

Can see the end in sight now, if combines hold together 2 days left of standing canola.

Hate to sound like a broken record but my harvest mood is one of surprise. I have to be honest I thought my canola was as good as last year but no such luck, down 7-8 bushels per acre from last year. Considering the good moisture conditions this year I had hoped for better.

With the extreme heat, 32 - 38 degrees for three or four weeks, those big leaves on the canola just gave up, in that heat moisture on the leaves would have helped more than in the roots.

Mallee where does your water come from in your pastures? Do you have wells or dams or pipelines? Just curious. We use all the methods I mentioned.

Interesting. How deep are your bores? Ours range from 50 to 250 feet deep here and usually pump 10-20 gallons a minute of hard water.

The other day we drove to the mountains on a little escape and checked out Abraham lake which is a dam on the North Saskatchewan River. This river runs a few miles away from us about 250 miles downstream.



It was so calm the reflection was perfect. The water usually is a lot more “chocolate milk” like by the time it gets to us.

Finally, yes, working up low spots with a offset disc, bone dry in some spots but can go anywhere. Disc almost skids on hard dirt, i love it, ground cracked everywhere.
