And I thought going to the COWS store for an ice cream and getting a beaver tail while passing through was the fancy “upscale” thing to do............

No, never in communist regimes. The little people are supposed to believe everyone is equal but that rarely happens. Fidel, his friends and family were never equal to the peasants.

We may be eating rabbits if meat becomes scarce. LOL When we were young we caught some jack rabbits and mom cooked them up - rabbit stew.

Flocks of pigeons flying around the yard are suddenly very nervous. Rumours of expanding menu.

Norm Macdonald, has the answer already
Just serve beyond bat. A&W Will have it
                Soon.
Tastes just like bat .and healthier too.

I really can not imagine there is a lot of
                Meat on a bat.
They must eat it as a delicacy.

                  I may be wrong but...
I imagine a culture 1000s of years old with a history of recurring hunger. Where the cheapest sources of protein are traditional.
Imagine the feed conversion efficiency of a rat. Or the cost of raising a cat or dog compared to a larger herbivore. Or anything else that moves.
More to this virus than a wet market.
Engineered and escaped more like it.
And our culture of plentiful meat protein relatively novel.
