Why would you need to tunnel if there is no wall? US economy doing fine without government. Why is there a need for government in order for an economy to function? With government shut down, good ol free enterprise takes over. Government workers will have to find real work. Don't want that to happen. Maybe they could help at the wall.

US economy doing fine??? Really. Then why did the White House itself this week state economy is falling by .13% every week the shutdown continues and if continues until end of March all growth will be lost and contraction will occur.

And if this is the number one problem in the states as some claim why hasn't "good ol free enterprise"already stepped up with solutions? Oh wait, they tried that and could only raise 20 million dollars over the past month from US citizens voluntarily to solve the problem. Is it that immigration/drugs is not actually the number one problem or that rational people realize the Wall will not stop the problem?

Drug smuggling and illegal immigration is not some socialist activity. It is actually free enterprise at its finest. There is a demand and without checks (on free enterprise) people are going to find a way to meet that demand wall or no wall.

ajl, do you agree with government insisting railway provide a minimum level of service in moving grain or should railways be free to to move what they want, from where, at what ever cost they want to charge as railways are free enterprise? Who should have greater authority and rights: a landowner, or a company or organization that claims it is in the public interest to use your land for another purpose? Careful if you say landowner because now you are siding with BC natives who do not want a pipeline to cross land which treaties gave them control over. And I assume by your arguments you have no problem with private firms demanding seed royalty and end use payments on grain produced from seed you purchase. Afterall, shouldn't free enterprise be able to demand such payments as they see fit.

It's the USA's biggest problem. People try all the time to cross over out in the middle of nowhere to become Americans or find work or steal goods or move drugs. Yes, a wall stops people.

The Democrats think they are smart and will push this to the end.

The sad part is Nancy and Chuck have no idea what they are doing. The average American is getting pissed off and going Republican. They thought they had the poor voters and Mexican, sort of like the liberals and NDP in Canada (and do nothing for them but token symbolic checks Carbon tax).

The tunnel argument is stupid. The wall is a symbol as much as it is a barrier. Its a symbol that the US is cracking down. If I was a drug dealer standing a few miles from it, I would certainly think twice.

If you have to stop a few hundred feet at the wall, then start digging a tunnel to come out the other side, that's sustained activity right at the thing which could be easily detected. And the easiest way to make sure that nobody uses tunnels is collapse a few of them with seismic charges.

They tunnel because the border is already monitored whether there is a wall or not by patrols, technology, and barriers. So putting up more wall is only going to increase tunnels. Where there are more threats of people crossing yes put something up which is what everyone is saying but they are also saying even with more wall you need more camaras more patrols.
The majority of threat comes from people hidden in transport trucks, planes, autos with fake id boats etc.

Economy doing fine without gov workers? Well when things that are monitored for safety reasons for one thing don't get monitored and something happens likely more people will die than than those saved by a wall. Should note many are showing up for work unpaid. How many people would die from unsafe food if an outbreak occurred and no one monitored what was going on?

Both sides of this issue are acting immature and they can do it because it's not their money they are risking. The ones deciding not to end the shutdown are taking their pay checks to the bank while good hard working families are suffering. It's beyond stupid.

Why is this such an emergency now that the government has to be shut down and government workers and all the contractors and citizens that depend on those employee spending for their own businesses when illegal immigration has actually dropped since 2017. And if it is such a huge concern of people why was the much hyped (even by some poster here) GoFundMe page for the wall topped out at only about $20 million after more than a month? And the number killed by illegal immigrants are a mere fraction of those killed by gun violence, yet illegals are a national emergency yet mass shootings aren't? And why is Trump willing to risk the economy over building a wall? Where is the emergency Trump supporters?
