Lets not confuse the issue with chatter about gun control or ISIS.
Oliver88 stated that "When over 90% of the heroin comes from Mexico a wall is a no brainer...."
On that basis you've got to agree that when 98% of crime guns in Canada originate in the U.S there is equally a case for building a wall on the 49th parallel to keep out American guns.

Far as I can tell, a person needs to get a green card first for 5 yrs before you can become a US citizen or buy your self in with $500k investment.

The wall is a bad investment and won't solve the problems. The attitude that goes with it is the problem.
All mexicans are criminals and rapists according to Trump. Trump the ***** grabber sexual predator!
Yup when you don't want the media to focus on your scandals and incompetence, then blame the immigrant families and children and make an issue out immigration and security.
The truth is many industries will not be able to find employees. Immigrants and un-documented workers do a lot of jobs americans are to lazy to do like pick their fruits and vegetables and milk their cows and work in their slaughter houses. Yep they are all lazy and don't contribute.
And a bigger problem is many of them vote Democrat! hahaaha.

Instead of asking who is responsible for the shutdown, the question that should be asked is what in the hell is a wall going to do anyway. I find it hilarious that anyone thinks a wall will have any significant effect. There is already 600 miles of physical barrier, some of it double fencing, through the most populous areas of the border and yet that is also where the most smuggling drugs and illegals come though. It is contraband hidden in cars, trucks, and loads. It is people walking or driving through border inspection points and simply not leaving that accounts for most illegal immigration.
Walls may keep out an individual or family, but is nothing to a sophisticated smuggling operation of drugs or guns or people. Between 1990 and 2016 the US found and destroyed 224 tunnels UNDER existing border walls; some of them being used to bring MULTI-TON shipments of drugs across the border at a time. And how many tunnels have not been found?
Between 2007 and 2016, in just the 14 mile strip between Egypt and Gaza, the Egyptian army found and destroyed 1659 tunnels, some over a km long bringing in everything from food to fuel to people. It was estimated it would take 80 years to rebuild the 6000 structures destroyed by Israel bombing based on the amount of building material allowed in through checkpoints on the border. In fact, it only took 5 years because of the incredible amount of building material smuggled in through tunnes. In 2013, it was estimated 1 million litres of fuel per day alone was coming through tunnels into Gaza.
What a waste of money building a physical barrier to stop things and people that will still come under (tunnels), over (airplanes), around, (pacific and Atlantic coasts) or through official border crossing (smuggled, hidden, or under arriving under false pretenses).
Forget the wall. What is needed is satellite sensing, drones, and personnel; and not just at unfenced areas, but at crossing with existing barriers. And democrats are all for that. But Trump would not get his vanity "great wall of trump" so HE refuses to negotiate.Last edited by dmlfarmer; Jan 17, 2019, 21:02.

And one more point. Why is this such an emergency now that the government has to be shut down and government workers and all the contractors and citizens that depend on those employee spending for their own businesses when illegal immigration has actually dropped since 2017. And if it is such a huge concern of people why was the much hyped (even by some poster here) GoFundMe page for the wall topped out at only about $20 million after more than a month? And the number killed by illegal immigrants are a mere fraction of those killed by gun violence, yet illegals are a national emergency yet mass shootings aren't? And why is Trump willing to risk the economy over building a wall? Where is the emergency Trump supporters?Last edited by dmlfarmer; Jan 17, 2019, 21:03.

With government shut down, good ol free enterprise takes over. Government workers will have to find real work. Don't want that to happen. Maybe they could help at the wall.
The majority of threat comes from people hidden in transport trucks, planes, autos with fake id boats etc.
Economy doing fine without gov workers? Well when things that are monitored for safety reasons for one thing don't get monitored and something happens likely more people will die than than those saved by a wall. Should note many are showing up for work unpaid. How many people would die from unsafe food if an outbreak occurred and no one monitored what was going on?
Both sides of this issue are acting immature and they can do it because it's not their money they are risking. The ones deciding not to end the shutdown are taking their pay checks to the bank while good hard working families are suffering. It's beyond stupid.
