It's hard to wrap your mind around what a trillion is, all sounds the same after a million but I liked this explanation so here it is for anyone who hasn't heard it this way:
      Using seconds instead of dollars:

1 million seconds is 11 and 1/2 days

1 billion seconds is not quite 32 years.

1 trillion seconds is 31,710 years

Interesting thread over on NAT about the devastating effect of a balanced budget
I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with it, but he does make a good argument.
Of course, it helps to be the worlds reserve currency and have the biggest military. Canada is lacking in both departments.

Here's another way of looking at it.....

          Isn't a trillion a million million?

And there lies the problem, when YOUR party can do no wrong, that just lets them free reign to do as they please. My little Johnny can't do no wrong.
Why don't you party faithful guide the ship, as for Trudeau he can't turn the ship around in a couple yrs even if he was of the mind to do it.

                  JT is not Paul Martin.
And voters today were filling diapers then.

I'm no Liberal supporter, but have to admit Cretein and Martin did clean up a lot of debt in the 90's, i'll give credit to Mulroney also, for FTA, NAFTA and the GST for contributing to this. Harper was ok, cut lots of tax, and was slowly downsizing govt, but have to agree Ritz was a fool, should have stuck with ostrich farming.

Is overall layering of Canadian debt more problematic today due to aging demographics, increasing global competition for resources, & declining new investment in Canada. What is the future impact of artificial intelligence on jobs & our tax base. What is the capacity of Canadians' to shoulder more taxes? So many questions. Hope someone is at least pondering the answers in government today?
