Might start on flax tomorrow. I don't think this is going to be pretty. Some of the later bolls are EMPTY. Yikes, how the **** do the guys In the dry areas paying big rent or those who are in kinda deep going to see black ink this year. The rented land beside me with the two stage barley looks ****ing dismal. If that stuff doesn't make malt (which I have a hard time believing it will) and they only end up with $3.50 feed....the first 15-20 bu/ac will have to pay the rent depending on what it is.

What a way to make a living.....I can't image what the people think who are lucky enough to have a decent to good crop. ....stop the whining already?....stop the insanity....stop the madness! Ghetto farming ain't easy. Wheat was our only shining star this year on our farm....and those yeilds would be considered a crop failure for some people. And to think some people had it worse than here....**** me!

Average would be good enough for me. 2015; kinda poor. 2016; stellar for here. 2017; poor again. 2018; it better start raining....but the insanity is it could start and not shut off either---one day at a time!

That should help keep the ground nice and dry.

Just finished tonight except for low areas. I think that's the 3rd time we have finished before September.
Had canola do anywhere from 17 to over 40, all within 6 miles. South of us, heard of 8 bu canola.

harrowed the wheat stubble last fall and seeded canola into it with the Horsch planter this spring . 95% seed survival..... not bad . Thought we would do it again .
Increadably even emergence and plant stand . Almost perfectly even maturity , going to be a breeze to straight cut.
A lot of uneven canola stands around here making swathing and straight combining a challenge.
            Works for us 👍👍

Highest Canola yields and HRS Yields and Barley in our area are on fields lightly worked last fall. Either Harrowed fall and spring or Kelly or even Lemon and Degelman.

Just saying seals the ground. One rain were back in the game for 2018.

Oh on subsoiling . Cracks a foot down or Cold winters in Canada don't need to do that up here.

....Two rains and you'll be crying like a baby about the epic flooding. Not that you were "out of the game" this year by any means. You were even celebrating in another thread that "But its the reclamation of land. I figure some 1200 acres are back for 2018 and i didn't even have to go rent some more."
And it's *we're* by the way.

Agree 100 % SF , we see the same thing
If we don't do it now the soil is starting to show cracks and will dry out far deeper and far worse .
Every area and soil type is different. It may not be for everyone every where but it's almost a must here

Also the less trash we have the less frost risk we have in our canola in spring . That's an absolute fact we have seen here for 20 years .

Come on now Furrow, it's likely best to take advice from the Agriville tillage specialist who has no $ on the line. 😂
