Hmmm, how much storage do I have. Actually better think price for this year versus next year..... but I haven't found anyone with a working crystal ball yet. I am saving myself the frustration of having my grain looked at.... so I actually don't know what my HRS Px is. Px above a certain level(15-15.5 ?) is stolen anyway.

Pretty sure its only dry years

In other words, it really wasn't dry, otherwise protein would have been high.

Tweety then using your theory why did we have high protein last year and the year before and the year before that on wheat. I guess we were dry those years and flooding like history in USA just didn't happen.

What a fine blocking pattern that again now that it's harvest has stayed working. No rain last night harvest on. Ah after harvest I hope it finally breaks and allows something before freeze up

Farma, just wondered what variety your canola was? Do you think leaving it stand would help getting rid of green seed or do you consider straight cutting not an option. My concern with it being so dry is swathing it and locking in the green. Just looking for your opinion, thanks. :-)

Straight combining yellow mustard, those pods are very shatter resistant. L140p canola pods seem kinda fagile. Not really that much different from conventional canola from my subjective examination.

Hamloc...we grew L252, not classified a straight cut variety and as thin and poorly knit together as this stuff was it would have shelled waving in the wind when it was ripe. We swathed, started a little on the green side but had quite a yellow look to it by the time we finished...but some second growth, not insane but some...it needed to come down. The canola seemed far from normal for timing swathing. Now that we're combining, there are some dark green seeds but not that bad. Some lime that probably would have cured out if I wanted to let it lay there prone to the wind scattering it. It was waving at me as I was combing yesterday in 30-50 k winds. **** it and put it in the bin. It is fine seed as well. Lack of on-going rain and hot dry winds took their toll. It embarasses me to report a yield of about 26-27 bu/ac and we are about a little over a third of the way through our acres....not expecting the end result to improve either! I did what I could, and the same as last year when we grew 62 bu/ac. Not pretty! Very few real good spots...only around sloughs, etc. Some areas were pathetic.

                Hopefully next year is better!

ps....also swathing a light, too ripe, canola crop leaves a fluffy swath. A little greener and it packs a bit tighter. Just my opinion.

What would you have guessed the yield to be from the ditch before you got into it? Im only asking because i shelled out some today that I had +40bpa hopes for that im now doubting. The seeds look very small to me like #8 birdshot size. Pods are full but seeds look half the size, funny my mustard the seeds are normal size but pods half full.

BL...I was hoping for thirty or a bit higher....the real eye opener came when we were trying to time swathing....just realized how poor it actually was. I got sick of looking at it through out the growing season, hard to admire and feel good about the way it looked so I kinda ignored it. Just one tough year on a canola crop.

Flax? Yikes! That won't be pretty either. About 38 bu/ac last year.

Go Riders...finally they seem to be gelling a bit.

Thanks for the response Farmaholic. I have to be honest looking at the picture of your canola I am surprised that it is Invigor, historically I have never had a problem with green seeds in Invigor, just certain RR varieties(Dekalb). My son is pushing to straight cut the canola this year. All Invigor but standing very straight and I am concerned that it will shell in the wind. But hilltops are ripe, hollows very green. If I had any hair I would be pulling it out lol.
