See rhoff, as Tom said, Jesus's mission
was to teach people a different
morality. One that included love. Thus
reinforcing my answer to #1 and #2
People learn it as they go. Otherwise
why would he waste his time teaching all
of the parables to those dense
    disciples.

Religion, an ongoing topic to discuss. One thing
I will always remember is a comment made by
my neighbor a few years ago. He said " The
majority of us in our hearts want to believe in
God, but under our own terms. That is why we
      have so many religions today".

Coleville if my surrounding society was the third
riech I would be "wrong" in your view because I
happened to be in the minority. Why did men like
Bonhoeffer choose to preach against the majority
and face persecution and death? Didn't the
countless people like him who stood up for what
they believed also grow up In that society?
Going back to my first example. If anyone of us
watched a genocide occur not one of us for one
second would think "oh well they killed the
children in cold blood but that's just a norm in their
society so we can't really say its wrong"
The third Reich didn't create a new moral law, they
just violated one that was delivered by a greater
        moral law giver (God).

Coville another point on your remarks of the old
testament. You say "the condoned brutality makes
your blood run cold".another question would be.
We're did you get a standard by which to judge
the brutality in the old testament? You also seem
to assume that our more evolved world of 2013 no
longer has brutality or slavery. When in fact we
just commit these acts with greater ease due to
our technological advances. It's hard to believe
but there is more human trafficking and slavery
          today than there ever was.

            rhoff,

Good points... the use of Drones by the US/Obama
killing innocent men, women and children... in
Pakistan is another injustice that is destabilizing our
civilization. Robots are now responsible for killing
people... another step... towards the edge...

              Coleville,

Since God created us with free will... forcing folks into
the afterlife (with God) against their will... violates their
freedom of choices. Hence folks being free moral
agents to send their spirits to separation from God It
would be eternal torture for our soul... without this
              separation.

              It is too simple... WHY?:

              The GOLDEN Rule:

"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way
you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the
              Prophets.
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the
way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who
enter by it are many. [Mark 7 12-13]

The 20th century was the bloodiest of all time, yet
no other century had knowledge and capabilities
                expand at a faster pace.

rhoff I never said we don't have old testament style brutality now, it is just no longer advocated by most temples or churchs.

Tom, drones are just another tool, controlled by a person. Like a sword, but with a longer stand-off. I don't thing it relieves the operators and their order givers of any less responsibility for their actions. On second thought, maybe it does, since this is now death by committee, rather than mano y mano.

                    Cole,

                    drones are just another tool...

It is hard to defend ones family against such a weapon.
This just makes the injustice bigger... like a 200 lb
bully killing/beating up on; a child and or crippled old
                    lady...

Tom. No argument here. Absolute power
corrupts absolutely. And the friends to
                      the south have become absolutely
powerful. Where did the "no foreign
                      entanglements" lobby of 1940 go?
