But seriously, I think it would be great
to see some ages and background if you
all ain't too shy.
I am 36 years old, and seeded my 20th
crop this year. If you include the too
wet years that is. I have a wife of 13
years, four kids (Girl, boy, girl, boy),
a dog, chickens, sheep, horses and I
love hunting, fishing, and trapping a
bit.
I take farming seriously, it is my
living after all, but I am not sure
where I fit in with it. It has been a
real struggle, I lost my dad at a young
age, it has been a tough recovery,
emotionally, financially, and otherwise.
I feel I am not even on the same page
with so many farmers today. I have no
gps, I got my first 4wD tractor 3 years
ago, I have little desire to farm a
whole lot, I still raise my own
chickens, I still plant a garden. I feel
like a throwback to the 1950's, and
often think I should have been born
then, as I like those things more than
competing with my neighbors.
I have hope for my boys if they decide
to farm, but agriculture is changing so
fast. I hope to make better use of some
of my poorer land to raise lamb on from
our recently aquired ewes, as a
diversification stream that won't get
hailed out, rained out, frozen, and cost
200 dollars an acre to grow, require
half million dollar combines, drills
etc. I will still farm my grain, but a
bit of a change is needed.
A bit about me... How about you alls?
