    wheat burning!

North of Camrose our wheat crops are now turning white! Its still July and they are turning white. So much for a bumper/ banner year!

Don't worry. The experts have satellite images that say that can't be so. Your crop is a bumper. And besides your production doesn't make a difference anyway.

The south hailstorm by swift current have local elevators saying as much as 400,000 tonnes of grain was lost. It still doesn't matter. UNLESS your the grain company and those bushels are contracted. The grain co. reps are calling to get a handle on what to do about pea contracts that are hailed out. They say the pea prices are going down, in fact, they may start offering up spot premiums to help cover the production losses.

This is a average crop at best. There was no subsoil moisture to pull western canada through the dry spell and its coming during filling. Let's do the math on that one. The satelite images can't tell the experts that farmers have lost a couple of rows in the heads. And I'm not sure if they could do the math if they believed you anyway.

We are in for a hell of a ride when this crop doesn't make average.

Watch for an early contract call from the board.

THis map shows the last 30 days rainfall... which is the key to a crop.

Gives a fairly good picture of what average crops will be...

Well I said it before and I will say it again after south crop tour its a average at best north is late yes a few areas have a bin buster but they are very few if it freezes in early august its a wreck. I would advise guys to stop contracting this drope its not their also oats south of 1 highway a joke and you see lots of fields durum in south also thin very thin. Next week north should be better but really late nice really nice barley at Balcarres. Abernethy etc.

Just back from a quick trip to Edmonton to help youngest daughter move and crops are all over the place. Dismal to really good but not exceptional. At this time of the game if you can see down the rows when driving by there is not a bumper crop.

This last week I drove from Calgary up to Edmonton through Saskatoon over to Yorkton, Russel, Roblin and Swan River...Crops are great south of Red Deer and East of Yorkton. Everything inbetween is marginal at best and some areas have nothing. Where the crops have a chance of being a bumper they will need to avoid frost until mid sept with the exception of Calgary.
