Cut worms

We have sandy loam soil, the cutworms love it. We have ordered our canola the past 3 years with it and would never go back. No spraying for fleebeetles or cutworms is a no brainer. Nothing worse tfan finding they ate off half your crop and its too late.

Spot sprayed yesterday. Lumidurm would have cost us a extra $7000..I figure with our average yield..at todays price..The worms ate $10,000 worth of canola..

partners , it works good , you still lose some plants because they have to eat to kill them , but at least you don't lose big ugly patches . this is our second year and I wouldn't put canola in the ground w/o it . you have to order it ahead but can return it if you can't seed it . oh and you have to quit jumpstart if you were using that . you can't get both . it aso helps a lot with flea beetles . I like the fact that you don't have to be out living in your canola when you're busy spraying and seeding . this canola I was looking at was seeded may 15 and it's still killing them . spraying them doesn't always work . best is if you get a dump of rain right after or during the spraying . I have had this happen twice and results were unbelievable . we used to spray at 12 gals with lorsban in the dark . but every once in a while you would leave some .....

farma , I don't think it will , they are getting worse every year but lumiderm sure helps us out in canola . it's worth it to me at this point .

I am not jealous, its just observation.
That was a real conversation I had with an employee of a (not new) big farm. He was just describing that he knows the big boss is cheating rotations on rented land because there is minimal interest in the land and everybody is too busy to really care. As long the the farmer pays on time he is a good guy!

So what does Lumiderm cost?

So caseih.... do you think that canola treated with lumiderm in rotation once every 3-4 years would keep them at bay? I can't seem to remember us having a problem with them. Nothing significant anyway.

What bugs me is we are supposed to keep stacking costs onto already expensive canola seed already treated with poor ineffective insecticide. But you have to put Helix or Prosper on because it has the disease prevention portion of the treatment in it as well. If you want better insect control you'll have to add the Lumiderm.....until the other seed Cos come up with thier own active ingredient. And mark my words, it won't be cheaper than what we are doing today...buying already treated seed and adding more expense. That will be the new floor price.

partners , we are highly experienced in cutworms , lol . rain does nothing to the bastards. we have had a couple of our classic 3" dumps in a few minutes over the last few years . doesn't even fizz on them . lorsban is the best . we have sprayed lots and lost lots to them over tge years . I see today the lumiderm is still killing them . usually a dead or dying one by the cut off canola
