El Ninio, love it, 1976 was a warm dry winter, dry warm summer. All done seeding by May 19th. Swathing Aug 9, done combining by Sept 14th. Average 33 Bu/acre wheat, 28 bu/acre **** then. All dry #1 grain. AND THE diesel, 0.13 cents a liter. Hope it repeats in 2016 .

Snow cover here is more than out west of us. Keep getting little shots every so often. As long as I can remember there is no thing as average snow cover. Only snow that matters is that late wet blast after the frost is out. April 1992 cows and calves were already out picking and pops had a bunch nh3 down and ready to seed and then it came. Several feet of the stuff. Put everyone back a few weeks but it saved the crop as growing season moisture wasn't good.

            Abbey Sask
Used to have the best little bar in the world.
            Haven't been there for years.
            Wonder if it's still there?

We learned on Agriville this year that minimal rain can lead to monster canola yields in Alberta and Western Sask. and even a world record at Birch Hills!!!

Timeliness of the precipitation seem to be the key.

Here I'd estimate our snow cover at 65-70 percent. Where there's snow, it's about 3-4in deep, and of course dense now due to melt/freeze. 6-8 miles south of us have no snow left, typical and normal to see that. Snow never blew here once this winter, so no banks or extra in the ditches. First snow arrived around Christmas. Froze up very wet, just looking for an inch of warm spring rain the first week in Apr and we'll be off to the races.

A very typical el Niño winter for us.

In Regina area the white rabbits are looking very out of place. Looks much more like April here.

Have guys in classes this week all the way from Peace country to US boarder. No snow from Crossfield south and very little all the way up north.

Not sure about further east in Alberta.

I'm just east of the Peace River and we still have snow here, won't last long with these mild days.
