My father retired at 56, sold every acre to the Hutts, bought a nice home in Regina, spent every winter from Oct 30 to April 15 in Mesa. He had the best retirement he could hope for and life was good. Most of our friends are doing the same and are loving it. But, not everyone enjoys the same thing.

Grassfarmer, I agree with your comments re continuity of the family business. We love working with our son and everyday build more trust in his ability to carry on the farm business.

Personally, I don't plan on retiring, I like to think in terms of reinventing myself instead.

Brave to reinvent one should not be over the hill, wait too long to try another career, think I missed that already, obsolete is the feeling.

Farmaholic, obsolete? I think Doc Holiday from the movie "Tombstone" said it best for me. Johnny Ringo said to him, "What about you? You retired too?" Doc replies, "Not me. Ah'm in my prime!"

Fjlip, we become what our thoughts and actions lead us to become. If you day you're obsolete, you become obsolete.

Reading your posts you strike me as someone who is far from obsolete. I just don't know what the hell fjilip means.

That should read, if you say you're obsolete . . .

I think my spell check is obsolete.
