The idea to reclaim oil well sites was proposed by a business owner in Weyburn. The idea was to utilize people who were already on employment insurance and get them to do constructive work since the government is already paying them.
From what I understand, Wall liked the idea and passed the proposal on to the federal government.

I actually like the idea brought up to clean up rock piles as well. People on employment insurance could be utilized to complete a long list of tasks for farms, oil companies, parks, etc.

EI is an insurance program just like your home or car insurance. You pay for it out of your paycheck so when certain things happen you get benefits. Your employer also pays premium which is fair as the layoff is his call. I think the guy who originally floated the idea was concerned about his company which likely owes finance companies on equipment purchases made recently.

Well let's not stop there let's have all those politicians that get a big retirement package after two terms come out and pick rocks etc. Great idea. May as well get something for all those people that sit there for two terms with their lips taped shut to finally get some use out of them.

EI or welfare, if able bodied , you should be assigned some sort of task to benefit the society being so generous to you. Would be incentive to look for better/easier work, stay healthy and appreciate our worth.
Cleaning up ditches/streets, back alleys would be great ideas.

Has anyone else heard of CRA questioning the "incorporation" aspect of the very over paid oil workers/consultants? Could be a tax reassessment to thousands.

HUGE difference between EI and welfare. You pay for your own EI just like your home insurance. Subsidy collecting farmers need to be aware of that.
