How much did the national energy program and equalization suck out of Alberta over the years. Alberta has had to pay her own bills and the bills of the lazy ass socialists all across the country for decades.

Sorry to break your bubble Tweety, but NO the boom happened due to Very High Resource prices
Boom started when NDP were in power and continued with Sask Party.

But when the province collects a NICKEL from a dollar of Potash sales and sweet f@@k all from some oil sales. Guess what ? We're now broke like our poor Alberta sister, (who used the same economic model)

All you Conservative farmers should pay back the farmer welfare subsidies that have kept many of you in business. Because if you are a true Conservative you would earn a living without the benefit of taxpayers support.

Did the Sask Party change the royalty structure on oil when they took power from the NDP?

The constitutional amendment 92A which was made in 1982 gave the provinces control over taxation of natural resource production. This amendment was fought for by Alberta's Premier Lougheed in response to the Trudeau government's NEP. I believe someone credited the NDP for the royalties collected on potash, undoubtedly they set the rate but the right is enshrined in the constitution.

Mustardman's line about a NICKEL being collected for potash is false.

The NDP in Saskatchewan are dying a slow death and is hard to accept for some hard core members.

Hamloc No the royalty structure stayed the same. I complained to Ndp when they brought it down (although it did increase activity)
And I complained to Sask party when they refused to change it even though oil was well over $100/barrel and Potash was like gold. Except for the province we still got a Nickel

Are u kidding me chuckschmuck! I would guess ninety nine percent of the farmers on this site hardly get a nickel out of crop ins or agri stability. Those programs are set up for the one earth and broad ass farms. Over the forty some years we been in crop ins we've got "assistance" 4 times. So save your ASSumptions for your NDP, Farmers union, CWB, etc. cronies.

Yes it is hard for die hard NDPs seeing their once great party almost done. But remember never forget or do like Alberta thinking their a good change. They will destroy you.

Mustardman what is the present royalty, is it a percentage that goes up and down with the price or just so much a barrel. How much did the NDP lower it? I think the biggest influence on business investment isn't necessarily the taxation level but the business environment. A positive attitude towards business by government can help spur investment even when taxation levels climb. The problem with the NDP is they dislike corporate success and they don't hide this fact.
