I would focus.productive energy on agronomics
as suggested above. Last product i ever sprayed
was a generic version of pardner on alfalfa and
barley nurse crop. It worked well cant recall the
    name.
That alfalfa breaking is still the cleanest land i
own and its been brokenup for 6 years.
As for the real answer, the person with the
    poorest lawyer.

Well if Monsanto had an ass it would certainly be shiny from all this kissing and lickin. Ha ha holy crap boys brainwashed 101, the guy just asked a question and boom don t you dare challenge Monsanto, too funny. RR canola is a volunteer problem, in our neck o fthe woods like to spray with roundup to get weeds but when you don t get the volunteer add more chemical, not a good thing long term.

I don't understand why Grassfarmer wants to drag Monsanto into this. The farmer
who planted the alfalfa would be having the same problem if the previous tenant
grew Westar canola. Leave the mess alone for now then mow it all off in late
July and bale or silage what's there. It will be clean and well-established next
year. Any farmer who thinks you're going to get a full clean yield of forage off
the seeding year is either stupid or greedy.

Sorry I misread the question and gave a
            practical answer to the
            question,Considering the source of the
question I should have known it was
            rhetorical not practical.
The other day I saw a news story on a
birth control chemistry called yasmin or
            yaz.
There have been cases of clot related
deaths in women that use it, the Fda
looked at it and ruled that the benefits
to society outweigh the risks, as a
father of a young daughter it is
something that makes you stop and think.

Is the same not true on GMO crops have
            the benefits outweighed the risks?

And as far as this case the farmer should
have been more diligent and known that
all canola is bad for volunteering the
year after 2 lbs of seed per acre is all
it takes to be real visible.
Sometimes we have to take a little
            responsibility on ourselves and stop
looking for someone else to blame.

There is one thing Grassfarmer...most farmers will have a agreement that the land be cultivated at year end...when their tenure is done. The landlord could possibily ask the ex-renter to help pay for the cultivation. The rest is on himself in my opinion.

Not just on this field...but how much effect did that ridiculous fall wind have on volunteer canola this year - is it much worse than usual?

Good steady rain here. Started at 7:30, and it's
soaking in nicely; the plants are singing and
dancing. Some lightening and thunder, not much
wind. I finally get a breather. Pars

Don't really see what the problem is.
Not sure of the area, but I am on
lighter land and I have always put a
cover crop in at roughly half the
recommended seeding rate. I have used
barley, oats and canola for cover crops. The problem with the canola I'm guessing
                    is most likely in rows.

One could leave the canola and harvest
it - if you don't spray it I don't think
                    you are recognizing the technology.
Second, spray with Buctril M - will set
the alfalfa back a bit but won't take it
                    out of the stand.

The worst forage establishment I every
had was with no cover crop. Wild oats
came until the stand, and they are way
more competitive than any tame seeded
                    crop.

So Riders....You get pissed off at Monsanto because you can't use their chemical to control their "weeds".
