Heartening that Orthodox Christmas traditions are
known and respected. But for our unbelievable
luck some of us would be observing them in
    Russian, if at all.

Incidentally, Jag, your posting translates as
"Lucky Christmas." The traditional greeting is
"Christ is born, glorify Him" and "Lucky (or
    Fortunate)New year"

I got my Ukrainian translation from google
translate. My wife can write and read Ukrainian
      but i cant.

I think different parts of Ukraine use different
      words.

My wife said in the part of Ukraine they are
from Pudaha is a word for baked perogy and
      Veranica is boiled perogy.

When we were kids living near Canora, we used
to go around to all the neighbours and 'seed'
good cheer at their homes for Ukrainian New
Year. They would give us money and some
treats. I still remember the verse. Does anyone
        else remember?
