What opportunities will come up for the ag sector with a downturn in oil employment numbers?
More labour available for our farms?
Less expensive pickup trucks, quads, etc?

Buggers are still pegged at 90 bucks a barrel so cutting the chaff now makes them more money and get them ready for the 50 dollar oil.

What happens with all the TFW? Program is on the way out but if there's no work some must have to go.

Oliver88: Just about every elevator has openings that they haven't been able to fill. I would think that they may get filled now and these guys that are inexperienced in grain will now be soon grading your grain and helping to establish your income.

Now if it was an apprenticed certified trade, we would be only dealing with people who wanted a career not just looking for a job until patch opens back up.

Rockpile the TFW has a 2 or 3 year contract. And the employer must guarantee the employee's wellfare for that time period. Not saying its fare. Perhaps give a return flight but the TFW knows his rights.

I will not cry for those loosing thier job as they have been raping the oil industry for yrs and driving up prices to all. Going to be hard to find a job that pays $40/hr to sit in a pickup and text all day.

CMHC and banks, ie. you and me on the hook for all the monster homes, humungous pck ups and RV's. Sure hope it turns around before it comes to that. Tons of good jobs on Workopolis should get filled.

Lot of TFW contracts must be coming to an end you would think. City of lloydminster has over 2000 Philippines. Not to mention all the Muslims and Africans. Most are TFW and come a year two ago. The Philippines are for the most part great folks but are on a far lower pay scale than everyone else. No wonder they'll keep them as long as they can.

Second refinery is 80% done and these guys need to be replaced with more skilled workers. Jobs were being bid on long before oil price went down.

While its great media, the real story isn't out there.
