I can see how the "The CWB NEVER provided a cost of production" could be taken in a different context than I was thinking. Cost of production was not a component of the price determination CWB used when pricing our grain... nor when determining the buyback we were quoted.

CWB was far from perfect but under the CWB I paid $57/tonne less a "trucking premium" so $47/tonne to get my wheat to thunderbay. If I was to walk into my local elevator and sell my wheat today I would be paying at least twice that much.

I know the way the cwb pooled grades and sales, made payments and took delivery wasn't ideal but if this is the best the open market can do its pretty sad.

as i keep telling my friends on coffee row nostalgic for the CWB....it's still there. you can market your wheat and durum all you like. only now it's better because you can market your canola and peas too.
as for the monopoly, it's gone and never coming back so let's get over it.

yes, and all the logistic problems and half filled ships in Vancouver are here to stay as well. Private terminals do not work together, no moving of ships from terminal to terminal. Maybe some sort of pooling is in order at the coast to add some efficiencies?

Canolacrazy lives up to his name. If a horse had fingers and gills would it still be a horse? NO!! The CWB is GONE!! The husk that is is left still sort of has the name and some of the people but the Canadian Wheat Board was a farmer elected monopoly seller and was destroyed in 2012.

And it doesnt work anywhere else in the world either. Dont plant any more wheat than you have to.

The entities Tom calls our "partners" currently have a net profit on our wheat of $1.50-2.00/bu.

Our federal gov and ag minister Gerry Ritz have succeeded in creating a very profitable environment for grain companies, they are now doing the same for seed companies, lets hope they do something to give primary producers a bit of an edge now.

the CWB monopoly IS gone. all the bitchin' and complainin' on agriville isn't bringing it back. you can elect Justin or Thomas as prime minister this fall, and he can put in the anti-Ritz, and it won't matter. so get over it, and figure out a way to make a profit.
