The NFU document on the cattle crisis was brilliant too. They started our to measure the effect of BSE and found the price of cattle had been depressed since 1989, it was just masked by low grain prices at the time.

Part of directors responsibility is too make sure they are talking to the people they represent. As opposed to justifying the other side presented to them.

The people representing farmers on this seed thing should know it's not good for producers in general. The optics are bad. If it needs too much defending or explaining - more than likely it's not good.

I have never voted NDP, although I have voted for some PC candidates that are totally useless. I have never supported the NFU because of their union and NDP ties in the past . But seriously , I ask this question again , why are they the only only ones making any noise on this issue or several other important ones??? This is a huge issue !!! If nothing else , me and everyone else should buy their membership on this C-18 issue and give them some money to make some more noise . At leat they are trying . Can't be any worse than some of these useless check-offs we are funding now . Grass , how much is a membership ?

caseih, it is $195 for an annual family membership but all donations are welcome large and small FROM FARMERS.

Big deal freewheat - Jan had dairy, some hogs and grew grain. He and the entire organization represent all sectors of agriculture equally from bee keepers in Ontario to potato growers on PEI.

Dairy guys and grain guys rarely see eye to eye, that is my point. There will never ever be an association that has a hope of ever speaking for us all.

IMO, we farmers need to look inwardly, and do things differently if we want to thrive, and if we are so upset at the world of grain farming, not rely on lobbying and what have you.

If I thought there was a n org. that could speak for us all, I would mayb join. But there never will be. A dairy guy heading the NFU is proof enough of that.

Would dairy farmers get on board if a grain farmer was the head of the dairy farmers of Canada? There is a reason there are separate organizations....

Why shouldn't dairymen and grain farmers see eye to eye as much as any neighbors? If I had a dairy next door I might even make another 10 cents/bu for my barley.

I have no idea why they shouldn't. They just don't generally.

Different ideas and goals, independent thought.

A single umbrella organization in Western Canada, ain't gunna happen. I have no neighbors I know of, who would join the nfu willingly in a million years.

Oh wait, there is that one, the former ndp MP nearby.

I agree and I see now that the NFU has at least done something, your right this seed thing alone should be enough reason to join. $195 is only a few pounds of canola seed , I'll join the NFU, I'm surprised that I wasn't aware that the NFU said anything about C-18. They better make some headlines,
