I have always regarded machinery similar to vehicles. They make them everyday.
I am aware that capacity and efficiency are at the forefront and I agree, but buying a year ahead, or some type of false insecurity that you won't get your machine is just a sales ploy. It's not like the farmer won't finish seeding or harvesting etc.
I always thought techno till has practical application as a drill. It's not very fancy, but have never heard anyone disappointed in them..
Farmers don't wear out their machinery, they just get ashamed of it.

Agreed on the techno till , a lot of guys use them all around me . As good or better than the 1/2 mill drills year in year out.
You can set up a drill for about 1/3 the cost of a full blown hi tech one

lol hobby. They get ashamed of it is exactly right. lol

I have a seeding system I modified for a total of 25 000. My crops are as good and often better than the neigbors.

But I am different. I have no shame. Actually, quite the opposite. I have pride. I would be driven nuts if someone with a seeder worth 10% of mine was growing better crops than me...

        lol

We have a $1800 dril and $1500 in openers on it, it can do variable rate prescriptions, double shoot, and has high flotation rice track tires on the cart.

Grows as good a crop as any other drill... Really makes that 500,000 seeding rig hard to justify, other than bragging rights... LOL.

One guy north of us has a sweet set up for canola.
Flexi coil cultivator on 15 in space
              Techno Till openers
              Valmar
              Liquid cart behind
-Always has one of the best canola crops in the country year after year
Pulls with an older Case 9370 at about 1500 rpm that uses very little fuel/ ac

Anouther set up is the same cultivator on 12 in with a tow between Flexi tank with Techno Till openers and all dry fert - same results - always one of the better crops around .

I feel as little guilt in owning a Bourgault PHD as you do shame in what you have... So we're even.

Furrow, he must seed at half-rate due to spacing? Has anyone experimented with decreased seed rates and spacing?

I think he seeds around that 3.5 lb mark depending on seed size
Also has far less disease persire than most considering his high rate of fertility. He is not overly concerned of Sclerotina except for heavy lower lying areas.
