If enough of us farmers were really concerned, we could invest in an entity to provide competition and bring down seed price. Should help all the other growers who saved their money and went along for the free ride.
    Can't see it happening.

Alberta grew 1.3 MMT of field peas the 2013 and 2014. Western Canada exports to China have grown to 1 MMT. Acres follow disappearance/markets and price. The best solution to better canola rotations is profitability in other crops.

Soy oil profile is improving all the time. Wont be long before its quality is same as canola. Maybe then it can be renamed ****seed, and used for niche markets like jet fuel and lubricants LOL. Stick a fork in it, the party may becoming to an end.

I'm with MB. Canola is losing interest in the traditional area and winning in the non. One dry summer and the non traditional will see what 12 BPA is all about. Canola has no new traits since its start. But lots of bullshit handed to farmers and cash taken from farmers.
If soy gets the same oil and the Americans will get their canola is dead.
Like I said earlier the seed and chem and grain companies in their greed screwed this crop. The Canola council just blindly watched.
Our once proud crop trade at a discount and we're dealing with a less than .85 cent dollar.

SF3. Here is a link to the Board of Directors of the Canola Council of Canada. Your comment about just sitting back and watching should make sense when you go through the list and see whose interests are being "represented".

I would like to believe the Industry will die without us and it is a true fact, but they will only lift their boot off your throat long enough for you to catch your breath. When you start to turn purple and gasp.... they'll lift the boot again. There is more "Industry" repesentation than Grower representation on this board. At least we have a seat at the table even if it is only filling the Scotch glasses of rhe others..LOL.
