Around me is big big highly efficient farms. Because of their size and (for lack of a better term) CWB delivery restrictions they started to grow utility wheat for ethanol plant. Andrew, crystal are names I heard. They are high input farms and they grow high yields 70-90 bu/acre. The sprayers go all summer and the b trains go all winter!

Hobby, I already grow almost all those other crops. Wheat is good after peas is why, and it has excellent weed control attriutes, unlike canary for example. The barns say they will buy all the hulless barley and fabas they can get their mittens on!

I can grow high yields, ( when it is nice and dry at least), and I do not spray all year, so I dunno.

I only grow 2 or 300 acres of wheat a year max.

Yeah, big zee, pasteur looks like a good wheat, decent fuz resistance, good lodging, etc. But the book says 8 days later than barrie, and for me that is just plain scary, because when the book says it is a couple days later, under our cold wet conditions, that can mean a week...

I would stay away from pasteur in the shorter season areas not saying it cant be done but wheat isnt a fun crop to harvest once it gets late. There are some new cps wheats coming out with good fus resistance and same maturity to barrie. Also very short straw.

"If you're looking for a variety that responds well to intense management, has no Canadian milling market, and is a good week later than most other wheats then Pasteur is a good variety" ~ SeCan rep at the Blair's field day.

I hate how it seems that one variety will have excellent lodging, but late maturity. The next will have good fuz resistance, but fair lodging. An then there is one with good both, but yields poor.

I need lodging resistance, reasonably early. Decent fuz like a fair at least.

Maybe just try a bit. Our sadash is definitely later but yield is worth the risk. No fuz or high vomy in ours this year but could be an issue some years but all wheat can be.
