Wasted 2 days of my life this summer. Can't get them back. Would have had way more fun on the river with the kids and probably saved money. I saw very little if anything with 7# N. Spent a day melting 10mt in 8000usg of water. Applied with folicur at mid flag. Burnt the tips of the flags a little. No protein difference and no yield bump. I will put my big boy pants on and just hammer it all down at seeding this year . Will run a blend of 46, Super U, ESN, and chicken shit, if that's what it takes to get more time with the family/friends on the lakes.

Boys I think we gave a winner!
Our protein is consistent year in year out over 13.5! Using amonia in band and starter Fert! We're canada short season! Can't change that! South Dakota south is long season and Europe is longer season!
If you have only 105 days you can't make a mistake!

That is a big part of it, SF3. We are not Europe or in a soft winter wheat zone of the US. Our practices are going to reflect that. Now, not saying don't try it. But we do not have 150 to 170 days and consistent growing conditions to get those wild yields.

Agree 100 percent with the last 3 posts. top dressing is a timing nightmare it will cost you big time on a year when you cant get your timing right. Seeding is by far the most efficient time to apply all your fert but you need to be set up for it.

Depends on the type of top dressing - time it with herbicide and fungicide - no time lost and you are out there anyway. There is a benifit in alot of situations. Reduced herbicide damage on crop and increased weed control are two we seen this year, plus yeild and small protien gains in most cases .
All are correct on growing season here and abroad, it is short here and time restrictive as is the optimum seeding window - a lot of feed / frozen wheat here from late seeding . Probably 50% to do with weather and 50% to do with time management . Top dressing can help with the later 50%

I dont see how you can put a significant amount of nutrient on with fungicide or herbicide without leaf burn.

Reduced herbicide damage on crop and better weed control does not sound fitting. Would think one does not go in hand with the other. A lot of chemicals are not registered with fert application. Which chemicals did you have in mind with your fertillizer klause?

We are talking 6 to 10 lbs an ac. Not a significant amount. Keep in mind chemistries play a big roll... Some chems, Bassa gran comes to mind, use 2800 as a safener and surfactant.

to me you want to provide nutrients to plants through roots its the way they have evolved for billions of years.

I see use of fertilizer mixes is not recommended for mixes with most crops under western canadian environmental conditions with basagran. Says so in 2014 guide to crop protection. Says amonium sulphate may improve weed controle in dry beans but may damage crop also under humid conditions. And never the forte with the built in adjuvant. You were refering to wheat. So its not on label.
