How do people who don't do this(tracking financial markets) for a living find the time to follow this stuff. I feel somewhat overwhelmed at times just operating this place. I don't even read all the newsletters and papers I subscribe to everyday or from week to week. I realize winter offers more time but I don't think this is a "seasonal" thing. Like buying and selling stocks, it takes a bit of a commitment to do it right.

farmaholic...Errol's comments made me curious...looked at the weekly charts of dow, nasdaq, and s&p...at a glance...ugly technical. Errol's right...times gonna tell...but if I was a chart trader I'd be a bit nervous long.
      Might be nuthin....

I am like farmaholic, i kind of understand it. But why cotton, are farmers in relatively good shape?
I carry land mortgage debt and machinery debt. It seems to me like i could not tolerate more than a 4% increase in interest.
Grain prices would suffer because if canada is luckier than other countries our currency would stay somewhat stronger than other countries. That would lead to lower grain prices.

Its end game theory far out there stuff

Banks are still selling default swaps on japan for a hundred points with the amount of capital they need to set aside for the trade at a number that ryhmes with hero.

The timeline is out there and financial memory is two years another theory from a man smarter than me

Canada is ****ed are fx reserves are inadiquate are current account is negative we are running major deficits hidden in our provincial budgets kick in the worlds most obvious relestate bubbles left to pop at least our banks attempted to follow the basel treaties

Major shock and awe in the markets and it will continue.

Cotton, if you think canada is in a mess, what do you think of the UK?
We are roped to that sinking ship since we voted NO.

When the combine is making dust it sure lifts the spirits, beautiful time!
Wife is getting dam good at burning as much diesel running it at capacity as I can.
Boy just turned 13 and he's on the cart while I juggle spraying and unloading semi.
10 yr old boy could do all of it if his legs were a little longer, mostly in the gator keeping coffee cups full for now.
15 year old girl is working low spots and was 15 miles away today by herself, radios and phones sure are nice, not like when I was there age.
18 year old boy headed west after grad and missing out this year but getting a good experience and making money ! Wow the money!!
Also had a town kid out this weekend , it's fun to share the excitement and show them what we do out here.
              Extra bold keurig coffee rocks!!

The kids I feel relatively safe with. They have been told how to behave around big machines, plus we look out for them a little more. My helper has a pal, he is about 70 yrs old. He likes to help move trucks and generally be around to ride and help. BUT he has a bad habit of hanging around the combine "looking" while unloading hopper. Always by a tire or pulling bits of straw off the spreaders. Meanwhile the driver does not see him.
Old guys don't want to listen to polite basic instruction, so **** him I sent him home. That's the last thing I need is someone hurt, it's dangerous enough without that.

Better that than being tied to Salmond's fantasy figures which didn't have a shred of credibility to them hedgehog. That was a disaster narrowly avoided.

Man, things have changed since I was young. All my city cousins and I used to ride in the 3-ton box the whole time-combine dumping, truck dumping. We just hung on for dear life to the box chains. Lost our shoes to the auger, but never slid in. Couldn't fit through the endgate. Drove truck at 12, took loads on the go or my dad would lose it. Shovelled grain in quonsets. Massive grain slides and auger teeter-tottering.
Now, we are paranoid, with 4 and 5 year old grandsons and we know the danger, but they can fall off a horse or an eight foot ladder and hurt themselves too, so what I am doing is encourage them to golf. Maybe they won't be farm crazy.
